The Vault custody update: resilience and control over your keys

Holding digital assets at institutional scale means never depending on a single point of failure, and this release deepens the resilience and control built into the custody model.

Multi-device signing

You can now pair more than one phone as a signing device. Access no longer depends on a single piece of hardware, so the loss or failure of one device does not put operations at risk. For teams, it also means signing responsibility can be distributed across more than one trusted device.

On-device confirmation for key operations

The most sensitive key operations, including key-share recovery, updates and refreshes, now require explicit confirmation directly from your device. These actions cannot proceed on credentials alone; they need a deliberate approval from hardware you control, keeping the most critical steps firmly in your hands.

A redesigned recovery experience

Recovery in the web interface has been redesigned to give clear visibility into exactly which devices hold the shares for each key. Instead of treating key management as an opaque process, the interface shows the current state at a glance, so recovery becomes something you can see and verify rather than simply trust.

Together these changes make custody on The Vault more resilient to everyday risks such as a lost phone, while keeping control of every critical operation with the people who should hold it.
